The Church and the Kingdom

(Matt. 6:9-10; 16:16-19; 18:17-18)

 

      I.     The Eternal Purpose of God

 

               A.  The creation in the beginning – the pre-adamic age (Genesis 1:1)

                     1.   The earth created in a magnificent and orderly manner (Job 38:1-7)

                     2.   Not created formless and void <Hebr.: tohu bohu = chaos> (Is. 45:18)

                     3.   The earth became formless and void after God’s judgment (Gen. 1:2;

                           Jer. 4:23)

                     4.   The archangel, the morning star, the anointed cherub, was appointed to rule

               B.  The rebellion of the Archangel during the pre-adamic age – bringing in judgment and chaos (Is. 14:12-14; Ezek. 28:12-17; Gen. 1:2a)

                     1.   Becoming Satan and the devil  – adversary and slanderer, the enemy of God (Matt. 13:39; Rev. 20:2)

                     2.   Being addressed as the ruler (prince) of this world (John 12:31;

                           14:30; 16:11; Eph. 2:2; 6:12)

                     3.   The god of this world (2 Cor. 4:4)                          

               C.  The recovery of the earth and the creation of man (Eph. 1:4-5; Gen. 1:2b-10, 26-27)

                     1.   Man – created in God’s image and likeness

                     2.   Chosen before the foundation of the world

                     3.   Predestinated unto sonship – to partake of God’s life       

                     4.   For the expression of God’s glory                          

                     5.   To have dominion over God’s creationfor His kingdom

               D.  The fall of man (Gen. 3:1-15)

                     1.   Through the deception of the serpent

                           a.   The deceiver of the whole world (Rev. 12:9)

                           b.   The whole world lies under the influence of the evil one

                                 (1 John 5:19)

                     2.   Bringing in sin and death (Rom. 5:12;

                            Rev. 12:19)

                     3.   The promised seed of the woman – redemption through Christ

                           (Gen. 1:15; Is. 7:14; Matt. 1:20-21; Gal. 4:4-5)

               E.   In the fullness of the times, Christ will head up all things in Himself (Eph.1:10, 20-23; 1 Cor. 15:24-28; Rev. 11:15)

                          

      II.     Israel – God’s kingdom in the Age of the Old Covenant

 

               A.  Being a kingdom of priests (Exod. 19:6)

               B.  Mount Zion – the city of the great King (Ps.48:2; 132:)

               C.  Israel rejected God to be their king (1 Sam. 8:7)

                     1.   King David – a man after God’s own heart (1 Sam. 13:14;

                           Acts 13:22-23;)

                     2.   Christ – the promised seed of David (2 Sam. 7:12, 16; Ps. 132:11;

                           Acts 2:30 )

               D.  The captivity to Babylon (2 Chron. 36:11-21)

               E.   The beginning and end of the times of the gentiles

                     (Dan. 2:27-49; Luke 21:24)      

 

     III.     The First Coming of the Promised king (Zech. 9:9; Matt. 1:1; 2:1-2; 27:37)

 

               A.  From the time the edict was issued by King Artaxerxes Longimanus (Neh. 2:1-8) to Nehemiah to rebuild Jerusalem (March 5, 444 BC) to the triumphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem (March 30, 33 AD) is exactly 483 years (69 x7, Daniel 9:25-26)

               B.  Christ the king entered Jerusalem (Matt. 21:1-9; Luke 19:29-38; John 12:1, 12-16)

                     1.   Just and having salvation,

                     2.   Lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

               C.  Fully rejected again by His people (John 19:15)

               D.  Accomplished redemption on the cross

               E.   Resurrected on the 3rd day

               F.   Ascended on High

                     1.   Sitting at the right hand of God (Col. 3:1; 1 Tim. 1:9; 6:16; Heb. 1:3; 10:12; 12:2; 1 Pet. 3:22; Rev. 5:1-10; Rev. 17:14; 19:16; Ps. 110)

                     2.   Far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come (Eph. 1:21-22)

                     3.   All things are under His feet

                     4.   All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him

                           (Matt. 28:19)

                     5.   Having poured out the Holy Spirit of promise (Acts 2:29-36)

 

     IV.     The Church Being Built as the Kingdom of the Heavens on earth today

               (Matt. 16:16-19)

 

               A.  Jesus Christ – being made head over all things by God to the church

                     (Eph. 1:22)

               B.  Being the Great High Priest according to the order of Melchisedek

                     (Gen. 14:18; Ps. 110:4; Zech 6:11-14; Heb. 7:1-3, 21)

                     1.   Being King of peace and righteousness

                     2.   Being Priest of the most high God

                     3.   For the building of God’s kingdom

                           a.   Taking care of His churches (Rev. ch 1-3)

                           b.   Calling the overcomers

                     4.   The church being today’s heavenly Mount Zion (Heb. 12:22-23)

               C.  The kingdom of the heaven being inside the saints (Luke 17:21)

                     1.   Not an outward visible reigning

                     2.   The life of the King dwelling in our spirit (2 Cor. 13:5)

                     3.   The King ruling in our hearts (Eph. 3:16-21)

                     4.   By the obedience of the saints (2 Cor. 10:5-6; Heb 5:8)

               D.  The importance of the oneness in the kingdom (Matt. 12:25-30;

                     Mark 3:24-27; Luke 11:17-23)

                     1.   A kingdom or a house divided against itself cannot stand

                     2.   He who does not gather with the Lord scatters

               E.   The gospel being the gospel of the kingdom (Matt. 3:2; 4:17, 23; 9:35; 10:7;

                     24:14; Mark 1:14-15)

 

      V.     The Second Coming of the King

 

               A.  The coming again of Christ in the glory of His kingdom (Matt. 16:27-28;

                     17:1-8; 2 Pet. 1:16-19)

               B.  As the Bridegroom-King coming to His wedding feast (Matt. 25:1-13; Rev. 19:7-9)

               C.  As the King to reward and judge all His servants (Matt. 25:14-30)

               D.  The judgment of Babylon, the Great (Rev. 17-18)

               E.   Coming with His faithful saints to fight the battle of Armageddon

                     (Rev.19:11-21)

                     1.   To tread on the winepress of His wrath (Rev. 14:18-20; 16:13-17; 19:15)

                     2.   Throwing the beast and the false prophet into the lake of fire

                     3.   Satan thrown into the abyss and chained there for a thousand years (Rev. 20:2-3)

               D.  To judge the people of the nations (Matt. 13:47-50; 25:31-46)

               D.  Establishing His kingdom on this earth (Rev. 11:15; 20:4, 6)

                     1.   Ruling over the nations for a thousand years

                     2.   Being the King of Kings and Lord of Lords

                    

     VI.     The Ultimate Manifestation of the Kingdom (Rev. 21 & 22)

               A.  The new heaven and the new earth

               B.  The New Jerusalem

               C.  Forever and ever
