Pressing Toward the Mark of the High Calling of God (Philippians 3:12-15)
I. The Goal of Our Christian Life
A. Individually 1. To love the Lord (Deut. 6:5; 11:1,13; 30:6; Josh. 22:5; 23:11; Matt. 22:37; John 14:23; 1 Cor. 16:22) 2. To be well pleasing to God in all things (2 Cor. 5:9; Col. 1:10) 3. To know Christ, to gain Him and to live Him (Phil. 3:7-10) 4. To actively pursue sanctification (Heb. 12:14;1 Thess. 3:12-13; 4:2-5,7; 5:23-24) a. Being trained by grace (Tit. 2:11-14) b. Consecrating the members of your body (Rom. 6:19) c. Experiencing the cross of Christ (Gal. 2:19-20; 5:16, 24) 5. To be conformed and transformed into the image of the firstborn Son (Rom.8:29; 2 Cor. 3:16-18) a. Taking every opportunity (Rom. 8:28) b. Turning your hearts constantly to the Lord c. Beholding and reflecting the glory of the Lord d. By the Lord, who is the Spirit 6. Son B. Corporately 1. To build up the church (Matt. 16:18; 1 Cor. 3:6-12; 14:12, 26b; 1 Pet. 2:4-7) a. As the body of Christ – for Christ’s expression and movement on this earth b. As the bride of Christ – for the Lord’s satisfaction c. As the golden lampstands – a living testimony and light of life for the unbelievers in this world today d. As the kingdom of God (1 Pet. 2:9) – for the defeat of God’s enemies today and ushering in God’s kingdom to this earth 2. To serve in the priesthood a. The church life being a priesthood (1 Pet. 2:5) b. Serving together in the Spirit of oneness - In the gospel of His Son - Nourishing and cherishing one another - Burning in spirit - Faithful to the end 3. To hasten the return of Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3:9-13) C. Ultimately 1. To become the firstfruits for the enjoyment of God our Father (Rev. 14:1-5) a. Reaching early maturity b. Ready for rapture to the heavenly Zion 2. To attend the wedding feast of the Lamb (Rev. 19:6-9) a. The bride needs to make herself ready today b. The preparation of the wedding garment 3. To reign with Christ in the coming kingdom (Rev. 20:4, 6)
II. Our Cooperation to Achieve the Goal
A. Realizing our responsibility before God (Luke 16:2; 1 Pet. 4:5; 2 Cor. 5:10; Rom. 14:10-12) B. Walking by the Spirit in our spirit (Romans chapter 8) C. Realizing the strategies of the enemies (2 Cor.2:11) 1. The flesh, the self, and the soul-life (Matt. 16:24-28) 2. The world (1 John 2:15-17; 5:4-5) 3. Religion – Babylon, the Great (Rev. 17-18) D. Eating of the tree of life and drinking of the water of life (Rev. 2:7, 10, 17, 20; 7:14-17; 21:6; 22:1-2, 14, 17, 19; Gen. 2:9-14） 1. Spending time in the word (1 Tim. 4:13-16) and with the Lord in prayers (Eph. 6:18; 1 Thess. 5:17; Luke 18:1) 2. Taking heed to the inner speaking of the Anointing (1 John 2:27; Heb. 1:1-2; 3:7, 15; 4:7; John 10:3; Rev. 3:20) 3. A constant “crying out” to the Lord in spirit (Ps. 107:6, 13, 19; 28) E. Having a repenting heart 1. Walking in the light (1 John 1:7-9) a. Having a good and healthy conscience b. Casting off the hidden works of darkness (Rom. 13:12; Eph. 5:11) c. Hating the garment defiled by the flesh (Jude 23) d. Having our heart checked routinely by the Lord (Ps. 139:23-24; Ps. 26:2; 2. Confessing our sins to the Lord 3. Being washed constantly (1 Cor. 6:11) a. By the blood of the Lamb (Rev. 7:14; 22:14) b. By the water of life in the Spirit and in the word (Eph. 5:26-27; Heb. 10:22) c. By the name of the Lord
F. Practicing obedience to the Lord (Ps. 95:6-11; 1 Sam. 15:22; Rom. 5:19; Heb. 5:8; 2 Cor. 10:5b-6)
